I rode on horseback to the top and back in 1979. It was a hell of a ride. Just one guide and I and two high spirited mountain horses. Actually 4 horses as we switched out for some fresh ones halfway up.

Would love to go up there again. Beautiful place and the only time I have seen mountains.

I don't think they allow horses on most of the public trails anymore. They think they damage the trails too much.

That's why they use llamas to pack in food and supplies to the lodge. You can see them in to paddock behind the lodge a couple of days a week.
