I went up Alum Cave trail and down rainbow falls. I didn't experience any rats in my cabin, but can imagine that may be true. Leave a pile of trail mix outside the door of the neighboring cabin before bedtime and I'm sure you'd be ok.

If I remember correctly, they open up all reservations for the calendar year during a certain month in the preceding year. I don't think they have any problems at all selling all the 'rooms' every night they are open. I'd suspect they have a no refund policy to maximize revenue for expenses as well.
