I’d prefer someone worth a damn stepping up to mount a big challenge but in the absence of such I’m fine with McCarthy being weakened, embarrassed, drug through the mud, forced to make concessions, etc.

People like Gaetz and Boebert don't know what they want and as a whole are not interested in governing or winning elections. It's all about " look at me!!!"
If you gave Goetz or Roy or for that matter Andy Biggs the job, the Republicans and conservatives go into a permanent majority. Your belief that giving it over to the Democrats so they can tank things and the American public will see the light has to be one of the most stupid strategies. The real world of politics does not work that way. McCarthy as flawed as he is or even Scalise means that sane competent people would be running things. Not showboaters. Gaetz is not responsible enough to run things and neither is Andy Biggs. They just are not. Speaker is a position that requires the office holder to know how to play politics.
