Get a coach. It’s worth it.

If you are falling on your arse, you aren’t leaning forward over your skid enough. Which is what 90% of beginners do.

It’s pretty much the opposite of water skiing. You pull against a boat so you lean back. Snow skiing, you work with the slope so you lean forward. You lean differently when turning as well. Snow plow until you get the hang of it.

There is a reason your skis are about twice as long in the front as they are in the back. Put your weight out over the front of your skis.

I thought I was leaning forward when learning to ski, until I really started leaning forward. Then is just started clicking.

If I ever decide I’m dumb enough to try skiing again, I’ll pay for lessons first, if not, I’m gonna get seriously hurt

The worst thing older adults can do is take a group class that has kids in it, they will demoralize the hell out of you.

I actually thought I could teach my wife (GF at the time) to ski in her early 20s but I had been skiing since I was 4 and I just couldn't understand how some things were not purely intuitive. I gave up for both our sakes and she got a one-on-one coach and was skiing blues by the end of that next day.

One thing that is important to having a vertical learning curve on the slopes is not missing leg day. However, it isn't just quad/ham/calf strength you need good secondary muscle strength like adduction/abduction or your legs will be shot while your brain still plenty of juice left.

I’m headed to Purgatory in Durango today. Lots of powder I hear. Started skiing at 21 and have been probably 10 times now at 45. Never had a lesson, I’ve skied a few blacks but I stick with the blues. Legs do get burned out back and forth on those blacks. I’m going to try to lean more tomorrow, I don’t guess I’ve ever consciously tried to lean forward more. Any body got more tips?
