I have gas everything, too, BUT the furnace is still dependent on some electrical mechanisms so I am SOL when the power goes out.

Small 120v generator will run an air handler and still actuate the solenoid that opens to feed gas to your furnace.

So if at the very least you could power a light and your air handler with even a small 15 amp generator.
