Blizzards are underrated. I'm in the Lake Michigan lake effect zone. We've gotten about 18 inches of Lake affect snow the last 18 hours or so. More importantly than that, there have been steady 40mph winds for the last 12 hours. Temps have been below zero since yesterday.

I grew up in Denham Springs so I have experienced enough hurricanes. I've never been more afraid to step outside than the last 24 hours. Watching the snow gust like this for hours and hours on end is humbling. I haven't been able to see the neighbors house across the street since last night it's been that consistent. I've never experienced a storm like this before.

Yea, I lived in Montana for a while, and I had a number of friends who are absolute savage skiers; I mean the kind of dudes who not only were experts but also had a couple screws loose to do the type of shite they did. We’re talking the types of dudes who wear the avalanche balloons because they do such crazy backcountry shite.

The ones who’d been in or near an avalanche before used to say there’s nothing like it, that it will shake you to your core and change you forever. They said they didn’t know anyone who’d been in one who survived who wasn’t forever different. They’d still hit the slopes, but they could never even consider doing or skiing in some of the conditions they used to go out in.

They’d describe it as something that moves almost as fast as the speed of sound, that you’d see it forming, and by the time you heard it, it was too late. These dudes were guys who’d been in and seen some shite, and the way they talked about avalanches was horrifying.
