For a century all the bowls except one or two were “meaningless” if anything not the NC is “meaningless”. But only now do players opt out in droves.

If it’s simply the fear of injury hurting draft stock, then the only solution might be insurance paid for by the school or conference. That won’t stop all opt outs but it’d help.
