every other level of football has more teams making the playoffs than FBS...I never hear anyone complain about their format

When is the last time you watched a regular season game of one of these teams you refer to? How many non-LSU basketball games have you tuned into this year thus far? You scheduling your weeks around a lot of Kings/Thunder games this year? No?

If college football is your favorite sport, like I imagine it is for 90% of the people on this board, it’s because its regular season is the BY FAR the best in all of sports. And the more teams that make the playoffs in any sport, the more it inherently makes each individual regular season game mean less. That’s why this 12-team format is so important. By making conference champions auto qualifiers and giving the top 4 seeds byes (and hopefully the top 4 of the other 8 1st round home games), it still incentivizes having a great regular season and preserves the importance of each individual game.

Yeah, you may be able to lose a 2nd (and occasionally a 3rd) regular season game and still sneak into the playoffs, but you’ll have to go on the road to play a higher ranked team in the 1st round and if you survive, you have to go play likely a much better team next coming off a bye. Sure, there will be upsets, but the majority of the CFBP Champions will come from those 4 teams with the byes. Because not only is the set up much more advantageous for them, but they would have earned those advantages by proving themselves the best teams during the regular season.
