Is the leak detector (probably a small red triangle ) turning in the meter?

Have you contacted the water company?

Wait for second bill???

I'm not familiar with a leak detector in the water meter. I will investigate that. Our water bill is about 2 to 3 times higher than what we expect for the few months afterwards. It's that much higher than where we moved from plus at least double more than our immediate neighbor on one side who we are friends with. I did call the water company and they said to check the inside plumbing especially the toilets and outdoor spigots for leaks plus look for above ground leaks between the house and water mete. I did that and do not see any outside or inside evidence of leaks I've been super busy making other repairs on the house, but now am ready to start figuring this out

Something like this in your water meter , if you have all water valves turned off and it is spinning then water is going through the meter, if it is start shutting off segements of the house one at a time and see if you can narrow down where your issue is
