The bigger question is, do you want to play JD next year if he comes back and be 3 years away from a NC or do you go to your future and try to win one in 2 years? JD isn't winning you a NC.

The biggest question though is why you would think if Daniels plays next year it impacts what the team can accomplish in 2024 and beyond

We do not have a NC level roster yet, getting there is about recruiting and the transfer portal not who plays QB in 2023. The idea that you have to have a multi year starter at QB is as outdated as Les Miles offense check last seasons NCG as just one example

Where I agree you need a lot of talent on offense around your QB and on the defensive side also, it absolutely matters if Nussmeier or Howard is the QB next year. They will have a year of experience under their belt and therefore have a way better chance of winning a NC in the second year versus if JD comes back next year and is the starter, the chances are a lot less that a first year starter can win you a championship. So that puts you 3 years out instead of possibly 2. How many first year starting QB’s have won a championship over the past 25-30 years? Not many, you’re naive to think you just plug a QB in and can win a championship the next year. On rare occasions that happens and the team around a first year QB is so good that they don’t need to carry the team. Flynn did it at LSU but he was a fifth year guy.
