Ok, we'll go with this number because I don't care enough to dig deeper into this.

Point remains, being conservative, film needs a gross of over 1.2 billion just to break even.

FWIW, I think it'll get way past this pretty easily...even if the movie sucks, it's still gonna make money.

Now Playing.

Overseas, #AvatarTheWayOfWater??? had a solid WED Opening Day grossing 15.8M over just 15 markets (vs #WakandaForever???’s 10.7M over 17 markets)
In 2022 that’s just under #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness’s 27.2M over 20 markets.
Solid 2.9M in #France despite WorldCup semifinals!

quote:

Worth noting the 15.8M WED Opening Day over 15 markets at #BoxOffice doesn’t include #China’s 2.9M WED previews, what would lead #AvatarTheWayOfWater??? to a 18.7M opening day overseas.
China previews will be added to FRI numbers.
Strong #Italy 1.6M & #Germany’s 2.5M Op Days.
2/2

Was supposed to go see it today with some friends but couldn’t make it. They said it’s by far the best visual experience compared to any other movie.

James Cameron reportedly handed in a nine hour cut of ‘AVATAR 3’ last week to 20th Century and Disney.

In true James Cameron fashion, he wants to complete the VFX work for all nine hours before cutting down the film.

It’s going to make a ton of money and people will rave about it and then like a year later we’ll all realize it sucks

I agree it will make a ton of money based on the visuals alone. Same as the fist one. The plot doesn't matter here.

When you factor in how popular this franchise is worldwide, and how barren the movies have been this year, the pent up demand for this movie will push it close to $2 Billion.

Which will still be a billion less than the first. (The original made $2,922,917,914 worldwide).

I mean, this movie has a plot. It’s not perfect. But I think this one gets by on more than just the visuals. I surprisingly really liked the family dynamic even if they were kinda annoying at times like all families are

The exchange rate was far more favorable to the first film This one was never going to approach that total, but I still think it can do over 1.5 billion

Yes, absolutely. People are going to hate the movie just for the length. There’s so many shots of sea life and swimming through reefs and meeting new sea creatures every 15 minutes. And this movie has so many endings. Like “oh, the action finale is over. Oh, wait, we have another action finale? Oh wait, Titanic 2 is now a thing?

I will add though that’s in part because I didn’t know the runtime and I didn’t watch the trails the movie just kept trudging a long and me realizing I have no clue where this is headed

Yeah, I'm sure the length will be a major issue for a lot of people. Not sure why he felt the need to make a 3+ hour movie
