WTF kind of bee is this? Little bastard was pretty huge, probably at least an inch and a half or maybe even two inches long and was buzzing around my mailbox this afternoon. I hit him with some spray and killed him because he looked mean as hell and I’m a big hairy allergic vagina when it comes to anything that stings.

Looks like a Cicada killer if it is 1.5 inches long. They aren't agressive toward humans and don't run in packs.

I kinda thought it could be a cicada killer but I’ve never seen one of those up close so I wasn’t sure.

Should I be concerned there’s a Yellowjacket nest in the ground near my mailbox then?

If that is the only one you saw, no. If you had a nest and you were dicking around near it, they would have let you know.

ETA: Download the iNaturalist app and upload your pics. It will tell you what any bug, plant, mushroom, etc. is.

That’s an Indonesian murder bee. Don’t know what it’s doing here but good thing it didn’t sting you.
