Bumping this thread-

Have a Samsung fridge that came with our new build.

Ice maker not working and turns out there are 2 leaks in the lines.

$1200 bucks to fix all in. Includes new ice maker, other parts and labor.

Seems high, has anyone else had this issue and decided to fix rather than replace?

Unit is 5 years old.

The fridge probably costs $1200. Samsung is known for extremely shitty kitchen appliances. I only buy their phones or TVs. Never buy any thing that involves heating/cooling parts.

We had the same issue with our old Samsung fridge. Freezer was underneath the double doors. Icemaker was this part:

Probably not exact, but it's the ice maker that churns out ice into a tray and will cut itself off when enough ice hits the lever stop it from creating more ice. The lines froze up in this as well, and some sort of attachment to it also froze and broke apart.

It's a very easy replacement if it's JUST the ice maker itself. Plug & Play style, you just buy the OEM part and replace for over $100.

We would always have problems where the coils against the fridge would freeze up and the fridge stop cooling. After defrosting the shite week after week, we tossed it and got a KitchenAid from Costco. Free delivery, although I don't remember if installation was free, but they did it for us AND took the old fridge with them (I believe that was included in the purchase).

I replaced the entire ice maker. It was pretty simple to do. Not sure about fixing the lines. There are a lot of videos on youtube about how to do this on certain models.

Eta: karma got me bad on this post. Compressor went out. Just had to move my groceries to the beer fridge. Will be looking at a kitchenaid

Never buy appliances from a company that makes TV’s. Also Kenmore makes nothing. Ask and they will give you the manufacturers name.

Just to follow up....I have a french door over pull out freezer Samsung that is 13 years old. One of the first gen's I think, in my outdoor kitchen. It catches hell and it's still rolling. Guess I got a good one!

Have had horrible trouble with Samsung fridge after only 2 years and TVs too. Switched to Frigidaire fridge and no problems.

Bought a whirlpool at Lowes last night for not much more than that.

The Samsungs are garbage. Lots of problems. Especially with the ice maker and dispenser. Dumped mine and got an LG several years ago. It’s been fantastic.

Our LG fridge has been a POS. The washer & dryer were too. I tossed them on the curb after about 4-5 years and bought Speed Queens. I'm about ready to toss the 9 yr old fridge too. I think I'm going to try a KitchenAid from Stantons next.
