Move to Metairie instead. It isn't New Orleans and will be 10x better than Lafayette.
Edit - Sweet, it looks like I pissed off all the guys with the New Iberia haircut when saying Metairie is 10x better than Lafayette.

But then you have to deal with the people from Metairie. Some of the most parochial people you’re ever going to meet. They don’t understand a world outside of GNO area , Disneyworld, and 30A.

Dude I don’t even live in Lafayette and that pisses me off. Metairie is an absolute shithole. It’s one of the most depressing suburbs in Louisiana. I’d live in Port Allen before Metairie.
