Trying to find the name of a tiger punter who played on the team around 1948. He almost always kicked the ball out on coffin corners and played in the pros for several years. I believe he was from the shreveport area.

I haven’t been trained to read all caps.

The 1948 team went 3-7 and lost at home to Tulane 46-0. LSU had ZERO passing yards in the game and only 108 total yards. LSU also only had 7 first downs.

I don't see any mention of who the punter on that team was, but it appears he got plenty of opportunities to shine.

Tommy Davis, but that may have been 1958

My grandfather was a cornerback and punter for Tulane in 50-51. He never liked LSU and all his children and most grandchildren ended up going to LSU

eta: he never played in the pros

We'll be heading down to see Mom for Thanksgiving next week. If you can be patient I'll go through Dad's Gumbo year books. He was a freshman in '47, so the '48 Gumbo should be around there somewhere and hopefully the answer can be found there.

I think he was a player who also played RB named Ray Coats. Not sure. I was there in ‘48.

Joe Nagata of Eunice my hometown was a punter while I was there during the '47 season as freshman. Visited him frequently in "G" barracks where the football players lived. He graduated in '51. Also played running back.
