If LSU beats UGA, then it gets sticky. LSU would be the SEC champs via their division championship and defeating UGA in the SECCG, however, a one-loss Tennessee beat us head to head and would be deserving of a CFP invitation based upon resume alone.
This is one of those strange years that the two best teams in the SEC won't be facing off in Atlanta in December. An LSU win would make some mental gymnastics necessary in selecting the field for the CFP. UGA would have only one loss which occurred in a post season game that not every conference champion is forced to play, Tennessee would have only one loss to Georgia, who was undefeated in the regular season. LSU would have two losses with significant wins over Ole Miss, Alabama, and UGA, but a loss to a good-but-not-great FSU and a decisive loss to Tennessee at home in Baton Rouge.
In fairness, if two teams may be selected from the SEC, they should be Georgia and Tennessee - even if LSU somehow defeats UGA in Atlanta. The lynch pin is that the SEC Championship is not necessarily a playoff game to get into the CFP despite the fact that it has served that role in previous years.
How it would eventually play out remains to be seen. LSU beating UGA is a BIG "if" at this point. A really big "if." And it's entirely possible that this will be the year they point to when the case for a 12-team CFP is brought up in the future.
With all that said - SCREW TENNESSEE! The only fan base that could possibly be more obnoxious during an exceptional year of football would be the Aggies. Even after UGA rubbed their nose in the dirt, they were quiet for all of a day and a half before resuming in their unrepentant, braggadocious habits on the Rant.
