I'm here to say Mike should be paraded around on a leash tied up by the visitor locker room and cheerleaders.

There's a donor out there who needs to sack up and make this happen.

If I am not mistaken I think they were having to medicate/ sedate the Tiger so much to bring him out that it was not good for the Tiger. I am pretty sure they had a news story on this before. The crowd, noise, and movement was driving him crazy. The last time he was brought out in the cage he looked almost dead. LSU caught some flack over that.

Oh, good lord, I hope that isn't true.

Some traditions are born with a lack of knowledge and understanding. We have come a long way in our understanding of how we should treat animals.

Most of you PETA lovers are Marxists.

PETA is a whacked-out organization. But does that mean that we should not treat animals in an ethical manner? As another poster stated, you can be for the humane treatment of animals and still think PETA is screwed up.

Nix, I honestly wasn’t calling you an alter but most of these upvotes and downvotes are from alters and some of these posters are as well.

shite ton of alts now. It is kind of maddening.

I'm not reading 10 pages on this topic, for which it feels like comes up a couple times a year, but this needs to stop. Chicken, admins, whoever has the power just please anchor threads like this. They serve no purpose other than to reverse course on a policy that can not and should not change. It's pretty awesome that LSU has a live mascot living in campus, that Mike is treated really well with dedicated facilities and world-class staff, and all of this exists right next to Tiger Stadium without an admission charge.

Discussions about the unfairness that other schools decide to bring their live mascots into the field and LSU doesn't is not productive now or for the future.

Your opinion is not the only one that matters.

I say the policy should change. So there. I’m right, you’re wrong!

Is that how it works? I say it should change so that’s the end of if? Chicken should anchor the opinions of all who disagree with me?

I shouldn't have to post this every time this topic comes up, but here we are.

Post your age. Only people over 40 actually think we should allow this.

Before you respond to this post saying one is a wild animal vs the other 2 are just mutts and livestock. Stop it. No one is asking for Mike to be paraded around on a leash. He IS a wild animal - hence he has a cage.

I still don't understand how this post appears every season. Mike is a tiger, an endangered species, and deserves to be treated respectfully. More so than a damn steer or a dog you can leash and walk anywhere.

Years ago, people either didn't care or didn't understand the enormous stress an animal goes through when its confined to a small cage and then paraded around 100k screaming/shouting fans.

Just enjoy the beautiful tiger in its habitat before the game and be thankful LSU has such a cool mascot. Literally no one with an IQ above room temperature wants Mike caged and strutted around a stadium

Ummm, that longhorn tried to gore a dog on the field. Mike never tried to eat UGA that I can recall.

Yeah, and if Mike wanted to eat Uga there's not a single person that could have stopped him.

I'm seventy and I think that Mike is just fine where he is. This is just another play neck thread for the joyfully stupid.

Good point. My 90 bound hound becomes a shaking, drooling mess when the fireworks start and he has to be kenneled to relax.

Now imagine a 500 lb tiger having a similar reaction.

How many years ago? Because 8 years ago a guy who knows a helluva lot more about tigers than you or me was quoted in the USA Today as saying it was "not a stressful experience" for Mike.

I approve.... but only if the OP goes in Mike's cage to cuddle with Mike, to calm him down before shoving him in a 4x8 cage to be paraded around the stadium JUST so the OP can feel better.
