I'd like to know why Boutte, our supposed best player and #7, is not returning punts. Stingley did just fine, does he have better hands that Boutee?

Maybe he has sucked since 2017.

So since 2006, he’s spent most of his time at ND and Stanford with a couple of stops at A&M and Nevada.

The type of players he works with at ND and Stanford are honestly slightly different levels in processing ability than at LSU is we want to be honest. Maybe he just isn’t coaching them like they need to be coached and Polian simply refuses to adjust his approach. This wouldn’t be shocking. I see it all the time where professors can’t teach their students well because they don’t adjust their approach.

I say kickoff but I agree.

Peterson, Mathieu, Fournette,Guice, Faulk, all the best players on their respective teams and all returned kicked or punts. Put 7 back there

agree. Sometimes it is more who you know than what you know. that seems to be the case with Polian. LSU deserves better

Special Teams shouldn't be this difficult.

So you found the list of schools he has been at but are Polian level because you couldn’t take the extra step and pull rankings for his units.

Notre Dame people said he sucks at special teams coaching but is an elite recruiter and talent evaluator.

I have been told that while he was a hard-working recruiter at ND, he was not considered elite (he got his reputation by landing Manti Teo, but ND fans I know say that was his only elite commit)

My friends hated him as a special teams coach. They said punt returns were frowned upon by Polian and he coached up fair catches. No clue if this was true.

Although he was their recruiting coordinator, Polian was not in charge of talent evaluation during his second stint there.

Well let him go back there. Because he sure as frick has no idea how special teams work in the SEC.

BK should have canned him after FSU. The writing was on the wall.

I'm not sure how nobody wants to talk about Bk saying we're so thin with lack of depth and the roster that we have legit starters out there on ST our of necessity. We simply don't have the players right now.

Your overall analysis of Polian is spot on. Definitely not elite as a recruiter, and lived off the Te'o commitment for far too long.

The 'fair catch U' thing was definitely true, though the only question is whether that was a Polian decision or came down from Kelly himself. It certainly frustrated most ND fans for years.

Bottom line is Polian is one of Kelly's closest aides and if Kelly's record of being far too slow to release/fire underperforming assistants continues in Baton Rouge, you may, in Kelly's famous words, "get used to it".

Because the desire to fire coaches is like oxygen to LSU fans. They need it to live.

My theory is that this team does not have the roster to field a separate ST. Too many starters are also part timing the ST. I don't think you can effectively staff a ST with part timers. Starters have their hands full working on their primary positions. Their ST responsibilities get short changed.

Once we get a full roster of scholarship players and quality walkons, ST should be ok. If it's not, then find a new coach.

This coaching staff is not playing with a full deck. They know it and we should accept it.
Injuries/illness are also starting to hurt us.
We need to get Burns, Armoni, Campbell back.
