I’d like to cover the early colonies up until the civil war, for starters. I searched through this forum after I made this post (sorry, should have done that first) and it seems that everyone agrees on the Oxford series. I think I’ll start that and probably read a few related books after each one. Thanks for the suggestions!

Robert Remini has several good books on the Jacksonian Age (1815-1845)
