Forward progress is bad because it is so inconsistently applied. If you have the rule ball is placed where the ball ends up it is just easier to implement consistently. I'd be fine if they changed the rule that a touchdown was only a touchdown if the ball stayed in the endzone. IDGAF much either way but everyone being married to the rule like it is untouchable just seems silly, it is certainly flawed, at least in implementation.
