As has been stated already, the Constitution does not grant rights to us. It limits the federal government's power.
Thank you for this. Since schools won't do it, I always emphasize with my kids that your constitutional rights aren't things granted by a government, they are rights that the government is not permitted address with laws in any way. "Congress shall make no law" is one of the most important lines in the bill of rights.
