My wife went to Gulfport this past weekend for a funeral and several of the people she was with took ice chests to bring back fresh seafood. I sent one with her as well.
She brought back a bunch of flash frozen whole shrimp. Large/Jumbo size best I can tell.
I love seafood any way you can cook it and love to boil.
Question is this... never messed with whole shrimp before. Is it better to boil them whole and them peel or snap off the heads before cooking? Or does it matter?
I've eaten Royal Reds several times in Florida but didn't know if there's only certain shrimp you cook like that or not?
I know that's a dumb question for those of ya'll that deal with shrimp a lot..... but unfortunately I haven't dealt with it like this before.

You don't have to do anything, but I prefer to pop the heads off first, then boil them, then peel the shells.

Less mess in the basket, and you can fit more without heads than ones with the head still on.

Check the shells and see if they are hard or if they are pliable. A lot of times frozen shrimp will have a pliable peeling that wants to stick when you boil them. I buy flash frozen shrimp from my local grocery sometimes and if they are hard shelled then I boil them.
Two keys to boiling shrimp is once they come back to a boil or float kill the fire and then add your salt.

Be careful with those IQF shrimp. They are flash frozen in brine and tend to be salty. Don’t add salt if boiling, just use liquid crab boil.
