I'm not sure that's how it's supposed to work. If a person has committed multiple crimes they should be charged on ALL of them. It's not like the judge will say "ok, he was found guilty of the first murder and will go to jail for life for that, so we'll drop the other murder charges because they don't matter". It's how people get to where they are to serve multiple life sentences.

There's also the optics of it...it implies that only white people can be racist and commit hate crimes (when was the last time a minority was charged with one?), which just furthers the division and belief that black people cannot be racist, so they act with impunity.

I understand that... he's going to be convicted of all counts... he's going to get 6 life without parole sentences plus whatever gets added on for the other 71 counts

so all you'd be getting is the optics... and I guess the DA doesn't really care about fighting for that add-on just for optics

ETA: and yes I would like to have those optics too... but I understand why they aren't going for it
