edit - I've seen some 'forward motions' that were surely noticeable on the field if someone were concentrating on that position from the right viewing angle, but rarely see a real violation that is CONSEQUENTIAL in the play.

I think they do a great job on ignoring minuscule 'violations' of technical nature.

Sure - measuring for a first down comes down to the same 'micro measurement; problem also - but there is no other option - and at that point it is not 'influencing the play on the field' it is measuring the result of a play already done. There is no other option. Unless you got a Bama ref purposely cheating does it matter (yep, I;ve see the video of the ref checking on where is the 'right' spot - lol)
