I used to think this, too. It appeared like he got burned out and complacent towards the end at TCU. And when you consider his run there, and the fact he already had his own statue on campus, you could hardly blame him.
However, a recharge of the batteries and a change of scenery might be what he needed. He also straight up quit midseason when TCU asked him to do a farewell tour and retire. It seemed like he didn't want the impression he was done for good, and he may feel like he has something to prove now.
