8-10" of rainfall on top of the storm surge is super concerning.

The worst surge I have ever seen was from the Hurricane that hit Pensacola. It knocked bridges down all over that bay. I think it had a lot to do with the bluffs in that area. Water could not disperse. In Louisiana it spreads out more as everything is low.

Lol. This was 100% me last year with the wife.

This is far from breaking news, but the SHIPS rapid intensification probabilities for #Ian are truly exceptional.

Astronomical 79% probability that Ian becomes a category 4 hurricane in just 36 hours.

Never one that has shot straight into Tampa Bay. Been in a ton of big storms but almost all of them in central florida.

Irma wasn’t any issue in St. Pete but I realize it isn’t all that comparable to this one.

My mom forgot she asked and is no longer interested so thankfully I didn’t have to send her a link

Ivan had a 10-15 ft surge, not sure what they were predicting before it hit but it took out the I10 bridge.

I don’t know your situation but noticed post about not flooding followed by being one of being in a highly flood prone area. Stay vigilant and be safe.

I think Tropical Storm Central has become a temporary resident of Tampa. He's posting all caps and exclamation points.

I’m always in the worst case scenario flood level area and haven’t flooded since I’ve been here for ~9 years.

What do you mean specifically? Coastal/surge flood zone? Or riverine? The 1-2 punch of surge + rainfall would likely flood a lot of places that haven't flooding in some time.

How often are the storm surge maps correct? I feel like for storms in Louisiana they are often grossly overstated. Can Tampa really expect 10 feet?

My Office is about 1 Mile from the Bay in Westshore. Put it this way, when it downpours for 30 minutes there it nearly floods.

We won’t be in any life threatening danger even if it floods, fwiw.
