The Excalibur is more run down than NYNY, but neither place is bad in my opinion if you're just looking for an affordable place to sleep.
The only place I would not stay at on the strip is Circus Circus.

Luxor? It's a dump. If you want reasonable prices try the mgm. If you want reasonable but nicer go Aria. If you want just nice go Cosmo.

The Luxor is a gigantic piece of shite.
Stay at the Venetian or the Resort world. We stayed at the Park MGM and the LXR crockfords at Resort World this year. The Park hotel itself is nice, the rooms leave a lot to be desired
