Ha! Sold my vehicle at the peak for more than I paid new and have been holding out for a new one. My time has come!

I can 100% say this is true. I miss the boat by about 3 months with my used truck trying to sell it.

The only reason gas prices are where they are is because of upcoming elections. If dems get elected gas will quickly become scarce and new world expensive. Count on it.

Expect a ton of insurance fraud. Mysterious car fires, drownings, wrecks, stolen cars.

Nov-Feb are great months to buy anything from cars to boats.

Prepare for a big push of EVs into next year.
Most online news sites have been hyping EVs from daily driver cars from manufacturers as opposed to ICEs.
Not sure the used market will be very plentiful and dealer's profits will still be large.

I guess it depends on the make/model. My wife thought she just had to have a Lexus RX350 though I strongly advised her to wait till next year. I watched the market from July and the market was actually appreciating. I found her a decent deal a few weeks ago on a 2021 that had been used as a demo. When I check the market, and I did before I posted this, the prices have not depreciated on that model.

edit to add: ugly freaking vehicles imo, but I still like to get laid occasionally

My curiosity is what happens to all these people and banks that financed a $75k truck for $100k with market adjustments and suddenly 18 months later that truck is now worth $50k and they still owe $85k on it?

You'll see a lot of "assume payment" type of ads.
