Your soil changes over time. It gets more compacted, microbes become or less prevalent, excessive rain comes at times when your lawn is unable to handle stress. Thousands of different scenarios to consider.
If you are able and willing to do it I’d have your lawn core aerated and top dressed with sand. Mason sand only. That will help to filter excess water.
