Single pole switch in the garage. Hot, neutral, ground. Black, white, green. I bought a motion switch. Same wiring except it has a red load wire.

I wired gr to gr. Neutral to neutral. Hot, load, hot together. It works on and off. But will not activate with motion. Ideas? Am I an idiot?

The wire with the red stripe should go with the black wire that actually goes to whatever you’re trying to power I

Did the switch come with directions? It may give you some indication of where you went wrong.

I know sometimes the switches can be wired in a 3-way configuration so you may just have a wire misplaced. But the directions that came with the switch should tell you where the wires terminate.

Black wire from the new switch should connect to the black hot wire in the box, white to neutral, green to ground, the wire with the red strip goes to the light itself. To do that, find the black wire in the junction box that is cold when the power is on. That's the wire that is connected to the light.

Black from switch goes to red on light. Leave the switch on all the time.

Black on the switch is used to turn the light on/off without the motion detection. This is why the motion detection does not work the way you have it wired.
