This is only true if you're operating under the assumption that every scout at every recruiting service has consumed and synthesized 100% of the available information on 100% of recruits in the database. Which obviously isnt the case. Guys get bumped or dropped because people learn new things about them. It's perfectly possible for that to happen even if no on-field games have been played.


These guys are talking to HS coaches, talking to college coaches, watching old tape, pouring through athletic testing numbers--all for hundreds upon hundreds of kids. The idea that ratings should be completely static because the season hasn't yet started is silly. There are only so many hours in the day, and the guys who make these rankings can't possibly consume *every* piece of info on *every single kid*. They're constantly learning more.



(Also, I will note once more that it wasn't even 247 who dropped Sampson, it was Rivals.)
