Glen West quotes Denbrock
Footwork is a work in progress, hasn’t mastered the skill yet…

According to everyone that’s been at practice, he’s a lot more likely to start than your guy

Meaning, of course, that he is still not accurate enough at least where Denbrock is concerned.

Most qb’s don’t master it until the NFL, if they make it.

I'd love for MB to take the reigns, but I'll trust the staff. if they think that JDs legs give us an overall advantage, than we need to trust the staff.

According to the rant a guy that weighs 185lbs could never ever make it in the SEC. Until he can run came along ……

Or in Jay Cutler’s case, even then

Daniels will surprise a lot of the rant this year. Seems like a lot of the rant already wants him to fail

He lost his OC, his 3 best skill receivers, and half his OL last year. ASU was a way shittier situation than LSU was; If BK and the coaches think Daniels is the guy then so be it. Kid has talent and obviously has been busting his arse and wants to be here.

Yeah I mean he hasn’t perfected it yet but he’s made lots of progress and he’s worked with the receivers a lot this summer because rapport is everything. He’s not a great passer but he’s a good passer. 10-12 and 5-9 with 4 TDs in the red zone the other day according to AYS (who was there before anyone says any dumb shite). And now that we’re talking about weaknesses brennan is a statue who still second guesses because he’s afraid to mess up. Nuss doesn’t have enough experience. Hasn’t played a good game as a college QB…

Rant in 2021 never once questioned Max’s foot work or mechanics but now it is a huge deal with Daniels

Wow. I don't have the archives but I am more than certain folks questioned everything about three qbs.

This is off of what a coach said. Not Rantards.

The coaches are the ones that said he needed to change his footwork to improve his accuracy.
The coaches initiated the change with drills to improve the throwing motion.
The coach is saying he has not mastered the change yet so the improvement is incomplete.
Nobody on the rant myself included said any of this.
It was his coaches.

The scrimmages are going to tell the tale on how far Daniels has come fixing technical issues, same as Nuss.

Fixing and overhauling fundamental techniques in anything requiring repetitive motions can be a long and difficult process. It requires a lot of thought, discipline and repetition to the point that the new way of doing things becomes enough of a habit that the player starts defaulting to it over what they’ve done before.

It’s easier for anyone to stick with those changes in a controlled practice where they know what to expect and have time to think about it. The coaches will see how well changes they have made have taken hold once Daniels is in a scrimmage where things get more unpredictable like a game setting. That’s when players don’t have time to think as much as process instinctually based on the work they’ve done. Will he slide back into older habits or be inconsistent, or will the new way be the norm?

And this is no knock on Daniels specifically. Asking any player to make significant changes over an off-season is a challenge. It takes a lot of players across various sports (think basketball shooting motion or a golf swing) longer than that if they aren’t pros. Even some pros never fix a negative bit here and there.

The same thing goes for checks at the line and going through progressions. Kelly and Denbrock have both mentioned these as being a requirement for their starting QB. It does look like Daniels and Nuss are the top two, so whoever of them has the best mastery of all of the above after this week’s two scrimmages will likely be the game one starter. And it won’t be about perfection. Neither of them will have fixed everything. Who’s the best total package and made the most progression.

I still think many of you are getting worked up over what is really only a starting point. I doubt we only have one starting QB this season, whoever takes the first snap vs FSU.

Absolutely true, the only question is which group. The Daniels is the guy group or the Daniels isn't the guy group.

And a lot of the rant wants him to be the next coming of Michael Vick (without the dog issue).

I think this is all true. Emotionally, I lean toward Brennan but I really just want the guy who gives us the best chance of winning right now, because I think the team is good enough overall to make some real noise this year.
