You can see mechanical flaws in young hitters, too, that will ultimately hinder them as pitching gets better if they don't correct it. It's one of the things that I dislike most about the travel ball circuit - the kids are getting plenty of reps, but maybe not tactical reps. They're seeing results doing things a certain way but that way will eventually just not cut it anymore, and they'll have to undo plenty of reps.

I don't know about Milazzo as far as how much ball he played outside of just high school ball, but you can clearly see that he has to undo a lot at the plate that he got results with for so long.

I can say the same about pitching. Kids gassing hitters with tens of mechanical flaws. Looks real nice on the radar gun and on the stat sheet. Those kids have hit their ceiling, or will get hurt, though. That's not even mentioning arm care when pitching so much, the mental side of pitching that's so overlooked, etc.

Floyd would be my example here. No bend, no length on his release, etc. But, he gassed people. Well, he had to learn how to pitch once hitters learned the strike zone, tunneled his fastball up, spit on offspeed, etc.

So much to unpack recruiting kids at such a young age. I still don't love it, but I'm understanding it more.

I agree. I’ve always disliked Floyd’s mechanics. Always viewed him as a “thrower” rather than a “pitcher.” I’m sure Wes will get more out of him, but it is harder to make big mechanics changes at this point.
