The second was Michael Brooks. Michael Brooks was minding his own business and two guys messed with him at the Bengal. He took the two of them, who thought they were bad asses, and threw them through stalls. Then the bouncers came and try just up to them him and he threw down like rag dolls. These were not small guys. He walked out.

My dad got his arse whipped by Michael Brooks one night.

My dad played ball at LA Tech, isn’t a necessarily small guy. As he puts it, he’s big enough that people won’t look at him and say “he’s too small to frick with” but not big enough to really intimidate someone based on size. Basically the same size as Art Cantrelle. So dad got in a lot of fights during his college days and from everything that I’ve heard from different folks was that pretty much everyone chose extremely poorly whenever they got in a fight with him.

So one night him and some of his buddies were out, drinking, in Ruston where Brooks is from. They stop off at a gas station and one of his buddies and Brooks start talking shite to each other. Dad walks up to Brooks, not knowing who he is (not that it’d have mattered to my dad anyway) and Brooks looks at my dad and says “wtf you gonna do?” Dad said he never said a word, just reared back and hit him with the squarest, most pure punch he’s ever hit anybody with. Right in the chin.

Only to have Brooks flinch a little bit and just eat the punch. Dad said that Brooks grabbed him and twisted his arse in a pretzel and went to town on his arse.

Sometimes, you’re the one that chooses poorly in that scene.

One thing I have learned is that all the people back in previous decades that lost fights must have died early, bc it’s only people that were badasses and beat every up that anyone ever heard from. “Oh but he lost to a LSU football player.” Like that is conceding anything, probably just got beat up by a black guy and claims this in his made up story

Michael was a 60' high school shot putter. Toby Caston was close. So were the great Joe Reding and Terry Esthay, but they did not have the LB speed.
