But Florida State absolutely could win. There is a reason the spread is within 3 points.

First week college spreads are basically guessed at. Before the transfer free for all it was one of the hardest weeks for Vegas notoriously. Now a team can replace 1/3 of their starters with new players (LSU basically did just that). No way Vegas can get a good feel of how those players and a coaching change will turn out. Could be amazing and the players take big steps with the fresh start and in a new program. Could be just the opposite.
Also with LSU we’ve played basically with a majority of our second string the last two years. Because of injuries and culture.
Point being if Vegas doesn’t know LSU fans truly don’t know what this team will be. Talent wise and coaching upgrade I could easily see a big LSU win. New players, systems, coaching and culture I could easily see a 10 point FLa St win. I have faith in Kelly although it being blind faith and LSU wins by a touchdown in a ugly showing.

Agreed that our skill spots are nothing like those of great FSU teams of the past, particularly at WR and TE. Our RBs may surprise you though—#8 Ward had elite YPC numbers last year and is extremely elusive without being overly jukey…he’ll make one move and then explode (that’s what she said). #3 Benson is our big back and he can put his foot in the ground and go too. You’ll likely see him at KR due to that one-cut ability.

What does y’all’s RB room look like? I remember Emory from recruiting and he looked like a stud then. Is he coming along?

Would love to get your take on the game and learn a little about your team

Alright I will give you a breakdown so you will stop trying to convince yourself yall are going to win.

One thing WE KNOW about our team is our Dline is the best we have ever seen in depth at LSU. now just think on that.. the best we have seen. Ali gaye and BJ are 1st 2nd rounders this year. Maason Smith #0 is a monster. you will be scared.

quote:

Our WR's still need to show more

This is the third time ive read about how weak your WR core is. With our Dline your QB whos probably 4th in the ACC is going to have a long day.

We dont know about our secondary and LB core. Mostly transfers but talented experienced transfers. with our dline that hides alot of weaknesses.

quote:

At RB, they will be very serviceable and capable of the homerun plays

Sounds like only thing yall will be able to do on offense is run the ball. with a in your description an average ACC RB1.

Now on our offense our biggest strength by far is our WR core. 1 Heisman watchlist with 3 other very talented proven WRS. Will be a good matchup with yalls Secondary being your strength.

Our QB unknown. Should be 6th year Myles Brennan but they've kept that under wraps. But whoever it is he will be SEC average due to our WR core.

Our RB1 John Emery a beast.

Our OLine is unknown we have talented freshman who will be starting and a couple returning guys. But going up against your "vet Dline" will be fun to see.

Now we dont know how BK is going to do his first year but expect us not to be what we were the past two years. I expect yall to be what youve been the past 8. either way should be a good game.

New Orleans will be a home game and we play great in the DOME now Palace. 30,000 fans coming down thats good lets party. Keep your phones and wallets in your front pockets on Bourbon.

So get lost loser. yall aint winning in the bayou

Brennan will be good if he can get the ball out fast and step up in the pocket.

To me, this game is a toss up. We're breaking in a new coach with a new system and a new culture. Nobody has a clue as to how this team will look in that first week. We don't know who our qb will be. We have a lot of new transfers who will play significant roles.

We certainly have the talent to beat anybody on any given week, but how will they gel in week 1 against a power-5 team like FSU?

Thxs for the history lesson but none of those teams will be playing this year. TBH, I haven’t a clue about our team this year. New coaching staff and half of the team is new. We were not a good team last year. We shall see.

These are the guys you will see along the defensive line:

#0 MAASON SMITH - future NFL player 1st rounder.
#81 BRYCE LANGSTON - future NFL player.
#92 MEKHI WINGO - SEC freshman of the year last year future NFL player.
#8 BJ OJULARI - future NFL player 1st rounder.
#11 ALI GAYE - future NFL player probably 2nd rounder.
#35 SAI'VION JONES - future NFL player.
#93 QUENCY WIGGINS - likely future 1st rounder.
#90 JACOBIAN GUILLORY - future NFL player.
#99 JAQUELIN ROY - future NFL player.
#95 TYGEE HILL - freshman...added depth.

LSU's D-line is obviously its strength. The DL will be rotating and consistently fresh.

Yeesh…if these projections are anywhere close to accurate then it’ll be a really tough ask for our OL and our offense as a whole. Given that, y’all’s new coach/system, what I expect to be a pretty strong FSU defense and what sounds like a youngish LSU OL, I’m starting to lean toward a defensive battle. May be pounding the under bet on Bovada that day.

• Brennan will most likely be our starter. Veteran, but not a ton of game time due to injuries(2 freak injuries at that). In his 3 starts in 2020 he looked ready (after the first half of Miss St game). Not the most mobile, but has a big arm and accurate. He will likely know where to go with the ball based on defense, and this is what gives him the edge as a starter.
• I think there will definitely be some packages for Daniels, he’s just too fast and seems electric with the ball in his hands to only sit on the sidelines the entire game. (No, I’m not suggesting any sort of 2 QB system, just a couple packages)
• Nussmeier has the ability to be our starter, he’s pushed for the job surprisingly hard and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is first off the bench if Brennan gets hurt or struggles. He certainly has that “it factor” about him that says he could lead this team to a National title one day.
• Howard is our very talented freshman, who will likely RS this season. He’s the total package, the future looks bright

When thinking about what happens in this game, lets just assume FSU has a B+ showing as a team. No specifics, just use imagination here. Basically good, not great showing.

Here are some possibilities I can envision happening that cause LSU to lose:
QB uncertainty and inconsistency. Brennan starts but is shaky at best. BK rides with him too long until he makes a big mistake, like a strip sack for a TD. They switch to Nuss too late, like mid 3rd quarter, he plays well but not enough to overcome stagnant offense. FSU 21, LSU 17

OL can't get it together. Run game cant do much. Brennan has no time to throw, Nuss can scramble and make things happen but FSU is dropping 6,7,8 DBs and smothering Boutte and Co. FSU 21, LSU 14

DL is good, but can't gel with LBs. DL too aggressive, and FSU is able to run the ball or QB can scramble and LBs cant clean up. FSU 31 LSU 28

Injury or 2 to CB, '20 Moo State or '21 UCLA showing by secondary. FSUs average WRs get open quickly and in space, DBs can't figure out crossing routes or close holes in the zone. FSU 31 LSU 28.

Do I think this happens? probs no but these are things I'm worried about. I'd be surprised if we lose some other way: I don't envision the DL NOT producing or the QB/OL play being good but Boutte and Co can't get open, etc

It is interesting seeing the LSU boards and FSU boards talk about this game. Both sides seem to think they will win this game. That’s what makes it interesting. FSU will be well represented in the stands.

FSU sold out before LSU (has LSU section even sold out yet?). FSU fans were able to buy for the LSU allotment without a booster status.

The DL will give us fits and WR’s will get open. FSU will need to keep pressure on the statue at QB at all times.

I could see more of a low scoring game but being in a dome with no elements usually favors the offenses.

Will know more after our first game and y’all get farther into fall camp.

Good luck and beat the gators!!

If you guys can get pressure using 3 or 4 rushers, it'll be a tough day for our O.

I see yall had no WR over 400 yards last year? It might be safe to say we'll have 3 WRs better than your WR1. I think our secondary can handle the passing game.

Travis will have to ball out as a runner for your offense to move along.

LSU very well may have 3 WR’s better than our WR1. We don’t have a true 1 yet or know the starting rotation. We do however have talent there, but nothing I would call elite talent or up to our past standards at WR.

So our DBS practice against 4 WRs who would be 1s on your team, im just saying I think you may be under estimating our DBs Jarrick, and Banks are 1-3 round draft picks, lsu has struggled stopping a running QB in the past, I think Travis’s legs will be more of an issue then his arm

It is said that the greatest improvement in a team comes after the first game. This should be a benefit to you as you are our first opponent. I’m not sure who your first opponent is but assuming you are not banged up, the experience and coaching changes to correct game time problems should benefit you . I expect Kelly to have our Tigers ready.

Brennan is probably 30 years old at this point, and I think he'd be a good game manager, Jayden Daniels is very fast and a serviceable thrower (I expect we use him in redzone), and Garrett Nussmeier is the future - elite talent and a heisman ceiling

no idea who will start

We actually have a coach that isn’t a fricking caveman.

So that automatically means we are going to win this game? Just going to ignore the fact that it’s an entirely new staff, almost new roster and are facing an experienced staff? Let’s not be totally ignorant here.

Tigers win but it’s definitely not some beat down. Too many unknowns.
