Two in 1982,

24-27 to Miss St and 28-31 to Tulane. Both upset losses that would otherwise had LSU playing for the NC that year, that coming off a 3-7-1 season including a 48-7 loss to Tulane.

I went to Starkville my freshman year for that Miss St game in ‘82…we were shooting up the rankings and Hilliard was getting a lot of national recognition. Then right on cue, John Bond (only QB to beat LSU 4 times) dashed our hopes. Of course the Greenies put salt on the wounds at the end of the year right before going to the Orange bowl

I wish this were true but even winning these 2 games LSU still had a tie to Tennessee and if they had gone undefeated they wouldn't have vaulted over Georgia. The question is would have the voters put LSU high enough to be ahead of Penn State who had one blowout loss to the Alabama team that LSU destroyed?
