Guess he still has a chance to be world champ for the most years because he is so young but still odd to give up a year in your prime.

He's still going to have the highest rating among active players, he said he just enjoys tournaments more than playing 12 game matches against the same guy. Usually they happen every 2 years but he just defended last year and put Nepo in the dirt and secretly might just not want to have to do that again in a rematch. He's playing a tournament I believe around the same time that world championship is going on, so it might just come down to he just prefers to play tournaments.

Maybe it'll all be a long con because he likes tournaments so much that he wishes he could play in the candidates again in 2024 instead of having to sit back and wait to challenge the winner like he has had to do every time for the past decade. Maybe he wants to win the Candidates again and be the challenger. As cocky as he is I wouldn't put it past him

He's 31. His prime is over. Quick downturn mentally after 30.

I forget the exact range but male mental primes are like 17-25 or something
