Just started playing 5 since they made it free on GP.
Was wondering what to play next in the series? Having fun with it, never played any of the Far Cry games before this one so I'm new to the games.

Far Cry 3 onwards are pretty similar gameplay and story wise. They’re fun games but they were too similar for me to play back to back
Far 2 is different but probably not as fun. Also a little dated obviously

2 is still my favorite, it's the only realistic one.

I know some people like it because it’s more realistic and gritty I guess. 3 and onwards feel like Hollywood movies. I never finished 2 because I got tired of driving around for everything

Far Cry 3
Far Cry 2 (malaria was annoying). This one would be my favorite if it wasn’t for that.
Far Cry Instinct Predator
The Rest

The biggest problem with 2 are the respawning checkpoints.

5
4
3
New Dawn (really good game except for the pain in the butt boss fights at the end)
Still need to play more 6 but I don't see it topping 5. I don't know how anyone got through primal. Nice job.
Never played the first 2.

I've only ever played 6 all the way through, but I really enjoyed it.
Just started playing 5 on Game Pass and I'm annoyed that I have to research to be able to use the grappling hook and wingsuit, but the game is fun.

Far cry three was good. Like really good. How many times has it been re skinned now?

re skinned
This is really dismissive of the series. I'm not saying it reinvents the wheel every time, but there are enough changes changes to the systems between games to where they don't feel like carbon copies at all. Even with 5 and New Dawn.
4 is really good, but it's the only one that truly feels like a re skin.

Not white knighting for the FC games, because I've only played one of them. Further, I don't know exactly what they mean by reskin. With that said, I've really never understood people who denigrate games for not reinventing gameplay from game to game. Sure, I love innovative gameplay as much as the next guy, but when I move between Fallout games, or Elder Scrolls, or whatever series of games, I'm really not looking for them to reinvent the gameplay each time. Iron out the wrinkles and sand the edges off the gameplay, make some minor improvements to it, then focus the rest of your time on the world and story.

Yes. There are so many types of games, when I decide I want to play an Assassin's Creed game, I'm doing so because I want that kind of experience. I don't need it to be a puzzle game because I have a lot of options for that.
A lot of people here will give souls games a pass on this, but it's the same experience every time in a different setting. But it's a great experience and if I'm in the mood for that, I go there.

As other people said, 3 and onward are pretty much the same game with minor differences, I feel like 3 has the most interesting antagonist/story.
I remember the setting of 4 being pretty interesting with Asian nature/wildlife, and I think the game is prettier if I remember correctly.
I unironically loved Primal, felt like such a novel concept at the time. Don't remember much about the story, but throwing spears from 150 feet away and having a saber tooth tiger was rad.
After playing 5 since it came on GP, I'd say it's my least favorite of the ones I've played (3, 4, Primal, and 5). So I'd say any of the other three choices would be a good game to choose. I haven't played those three for a while though so my memory is a little fuzzy on the details. I'd probably rank them 3 (best), Primal, 4, 5.

Instincts is the most underrated of the series and had the best pvp of any of the games. Really wish they would remaster that one. The online community for it was stellar.

Guess I need to give Instincts another try then.

I liked the story and single player, but its online is where it really excelled. Great mix of weapons, stellar maps, game modes, plus the editor mode was pretty groundbreaking back then.
