I live in St George Utah for the last 3 years and cannot be happier. I'm from NO and moved to Utah from Houston. St George is so cool if you like small towns and not much excitement. We are 45 minutes to Cedar City(I mountain bike there) and Vegas is 1:45 away if you crave the excitement! St George is within 3-4 hours to 5 National Parks..pretty cool! Doesn't snow here and you just need get through 2 or so months of summer heat...105° today! Skiing only 1:45 in Brianhead and some of the best MTB around. Small college town and most people are active and enjoy the outdoors! It's a beautiful place!

Not out west, but central/East Tennessee has a ton of mid to small towns that are pretty nice and are within driving distance of everything including football. My parents live q ways outside of Nashville and my brother lives in Cookeville and they love the climate.

Missoula. Cool college town. Can get a little nippy in the winter but not as bad as some might think

You don’t want to move to bitter cold. Layers of clothing, inside all the time.
Mostly look for a more temperate climate throughout the year.

The smartest people have a northern home for the summer and a southern home for the winter.

I live less than a mile from Colorado State University. Love it out here in FOCO.

Most folks don't shovel snow anymore.
I realized everyone else on my street was just driving through it. I tried that and was surprised how easy it was. Never shoveled again

I know this site is anti California, but if you want mild weather year around, San Diego is the place for you.

I’m three years out for fully retiring. Selling my house in Orlando (the hottest, most humid place on earth). Moving to my house at St Augustine Beach and buying a Class A RV with a good chunk of the proceeds of the house in Orlando. Home base will be at SAB and I’ll chase 75 degrees in the Rv.
That’s my plan.
ETA: I bought my beach house in the Obama recession. I paid it off when I retired from FedGov and went to work doing the same thing for the State of Florida. I have just been enjoying it as a vacation home. It’s a small place but only one block off the beach. Prices have skyrocketed now. There’s no way I could ever even consider buying the same place in today’s market.
You younger folks are so screwed unless this changes drastically.

Drought is a serious problem in many places out West.

Wyoming summers are awesome. It's the winter that gets you. Starts snowing in September and goes into June most years. Windchills can easily get 40 below.

ive lived in Chicago, Beijing, Kharbarovsk, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and spent a winter in New England and I would rather take the 100+ degree summers with humidity than have to endure another freezing winter. Its not even close, to me.

Get something where you'll have to fill the fridge and run errands before/during/after storms so you'll get the full experience of winter and not the touristy version. Especially Cheyenne when it's 10º with the wind blowing 60-70 mph and Interstate 80 and 25 is shut down for 3 or 4 days.
So like a hurricane, but I can build a fire and be comfortable while I spend three or four days away from work cooking and doing hobbies?
Where do I sign?
