You can argue it but Dean was far worse. Hands down.

Dean’s hiring of Hallman and resisting firing him was incredible. I am not kidding when I say Joe Dean almost killed LSU Football. LSU was getting embarrassed weekly and was winning 3 to 4 games per year. Home attendance had dropped to 45,000 or so and Dean still wanted to keep Hallman.

The botching of the Sullivan hire and National embarrassment when Sullivan backed out was just so rinky-dink.

Then LSU had to go to Vanderbilt to beg Dinardo to take the job. LSU was a bottom-feeder of the SEC and a laughing stock of College Football.

Dean made the comment “there would never be a Million Dollar Coach while he was at LSU. So when it came to replace Dinardo, Emmert stuck Joe Dean in the Corner and hired Saban.

Joe Dean was the ultimate penny pincher. Under Dean the LSU Football Staff was the 7th highest paid staff in the 12 team SEC.
Dinardo lost both Coordinators over money because Joe Dean said they had honor their contracts. So John Symank (DC) left for Texas and Morris Watts (OC) left for Michigan State. LSU was losing assistant coaches to Mississippi State over money.

Joe Dean deserves every bit of criticism he gets. By far the Worst AD in the last 50 years.

Carl Reese was the DC who left for Texas when DiNardo was coaching. John Symank had become an administrator by that point.
