slushy winters aren't my favorite,

yep I hate it.

I'd prefer 20 and snow to 35 and rain.

100% especially after two weeks of -20 and -40 wind chills. Everything defrost and it becomes like a false break up. its awful.

Its a beautiful place in winter though.

that it is. That's why I prefer Anchorage or Palmer winters the most. mid teens temps with snow is pretty awesome. especially with minimal wind.

I miss the falls of south central Alaska the most

My favorite discussion:

"Bro, you don't know what cold is. I'm from Wisconsin" (dude back in HQ in Germany)

"Is -56 cold?"

"You can't count wind chill dude"

"I'm not. I'm talking -56 actual temp."

*starts sputtering about lies, links him the SIPR weather data of the area*

"Uh...umm....is your DF2 freezing? (he's a loggy)

"Ya, it is. Shouldn't have this shite been JP8?"

"Uh, um, ya?"

"Ya, well, our DF2 is jelling. Enjoy the call from the site commander any minute now."

*three days later, three star USAREUR commander is on the ground to assess our mission*

Woops.

I found the weather there to be better overall, except the constant wind in the Valley. Juneau is kind of on the cusp, Haines to the north gets a lot more snow when we get rain. Lynn Canal seems to be a little cooler than in town.

Liked the Fishhook area around Palmer, it doesn't get quite the wind the town itself does. Did play golf (if you can call it that) on a day in January 2001 though.
