This was taken at his house in Richmond, VA and was one of the last times he ever put on his Confederate uniform.

Lee was hardly a loser. He did way more with much less and by all accounts was a good man and a gentleman who was loyal to his home state of Virginia

Or relief. He did his duty for his state, but I don’t ever get the impression that he was ever anything more than motivated by doing is duty for his state. Wherever Virginia sided on the issue of secession is where Lee would side. The end of the hostilities probably came as a great sense of relief for him, especially since I don’t think he took warring with his fellow countrymen as something of great joy but a duty he had to fulfill.
