re: Perdido Key bank & surf fishing

I was on Gulf State Pier this past week. Some tarpon were rolling and reds were busting like in the video but none in casting distance.

Some jacks were caught but for me, the real star of the show was trout up front.

Lost about a 7 pounder trying to get him up on the pier and another busted my bait pretty hard but got off as well. Managed to catch 3 in the 19 inch range.

Free lining alewives on a 12lb fluorocarbon leader and #2 octopus hook. Using about a 4 to 5 ft leader. If the really big ones don't want the 12lb leader, go to 10 or maybe even 8.

There are some legit giant trout to be caught off that pier but they're spooky as shite. One guy managed to get an 8 pounder up while I was there.
