100% that was the point. After everything that happened in the episode, the great lengths that Nathan went through to help this guy, he couldn’t practice what he preached when there was a possibility that the morally questionable thing that he did (subconsciously feeding him the trivia answers) would upset the guy so greatly. Nathan only wants to help people in an obsessive effort to be liked himself, to see himself as the good guy, and he chickened out when it was possible that confessing would cause the guy to be legit angry at him for what he did. He couldn’t stand the thought of this guy being mad at him.

I wasn't even thinking of it that way. I saw Nathan's decision to not confess to him to be more about not wanting to ruin everything for the guy and upset him.
