Is to late in the season to buy crawfish? I wanted to have my last boil this weekend coming but don’t won’t to deal with them if they’ve got hard already.

This is the last weekend for most places. Some are hard some are not.

I boiled a sack this past Friday. Some were hard but nothing too bad that made it not worth it. We all enjoyed having one last boil.

What's the reason behind this? I always hear people say they quit eating when the crawfish start to harden?

FWIW If they are still selling them live then I'm still boiling them if I get the chance.

If you like to suck the heads, like I do, it doesnt work as well when the shells are hard. They can be a little harder to peel but its not a problem for me. I like to tear into them and its just a lot easier when they are a little smaller and not hard as a rock.

Just did them Friday. My normal guy stopped a cpl weeks ago but gave me a number to someone in St Martinsville. They were not pond raised...they were great. Maybe some hard ones but nothing my 78yo mom couldn't deal with so there's that. Heads maybe a little hard to suck and claws to deal with but worth it IMO

March, April, May is crawfish time. All other months are a flip of the coin.

Lacrawfish has told me in the past that they are usually good thru June. I did a big boil on June 20 last year and sourced them from Acadia Crawfish and they were fine. But it varies some year to year.

A few weeks ago, it was May. Not saying they aren’t good next weekend, but it varies and not a guarantee.

Easy to "PILL"??? And they are not easy to peel either.

Lots of people don't like the shells tearing up their fingers trying to peel hard shelled crawfish.

it's never too late to buy crawfish. frick those that say they are too hard. if you can peel a fricking crab, you can peel a black crawfish. the meat is still good.

Add some extra lemon juice (2 large bottles of Real Lemon) to your boil water and boil your crawfish for about an extra 2 minutes. The lemon juice helps to soften the crawfish shells.
