The only problem is a battery costs more than a new unit when it goes bad in two years.

The Ego batteries are high as giraffe pussy, but for home use they'll last longer than two years. I can't say how many charge cycles you'll get out of one using it daily as a lawn service, but my guess is it's easily worth it. I know fuel tanks are tiny (a quart? half a quart?), but it's still 50 cents or so a tank vs 10 cents to charge a battery pack. Forty cents per yard for two years will easily cover the cost of a new battery. And that's not even counting the time saved not dicking around with fuel and oil and filters and carbs and whatnot.
