Haven’t posted here all that often although it was my primary board for quite a few years early on.

I’ve got 3 girls ages 15 months to 7 years old. This is our 3rd tent camping trip in the last two months and they love this more than any high dollar, Hollyweird activity we’ve ever done.

Me, my wife, 3 baby girls, my faithful GSP pup and an ice chest of Busch for 4 nights at Oak Mountain State Park in Alabama.

The rain has blown through and we’re ready to just relax and enjoy ourselves with no itinerary, no stressing over making connecting flights, minimal tech and lots of time for each other.

I, and likely most of you did it growing up and more than anything this is the sort of fun society needs more of right now.

If any of y’all gump folks want to drink a few cold ones, shoot me an email. Username at gmail.

Camping is definitely a good way to spend some time with friends and family. We bought a camper last year and use it every month or so . The wife and kids enjoy going to different places and just relaxing. We are going to Lake Enid in north Mississippi shortly and then to Hot Springs national park after that . I wish we’d done it years ago.

I agree and we enjoy it, but how do you do it in the hottest part of the year?

my son joined cub scouts years back and we camped a lot with the pack. Now that he no longer is active with scouts we still go camping when we can. We have had some great camping trips over the years and hope to continue doing so. You don't have to have fancy gear, just go out and enjoy the outdoors.

Keep it up man. Good times for you and your family.

Growing up in Missouri, all we drank was Busch Lights but we called them bluegills.

I'm less than a mile from Oak Mountain as the crow flies. We're up there quite a bit throughout the year!

No way in hell I'd be camping in S.E. Louisiana this time of year.

I don't mind fall and early spring weather, but this oppressive heat and humidity is no fun to be trying to sleep outdoors.

Another fun/quick way of camping is an overnight canoe trip. You can fit your gear--tents, sleeping bags, ice chest, even chairs pretty easily in a canoe. Took my two daughters camping like this many times as they were growing up and we always had a blast.

Thanks for this reminder.

I’ve been meaning forever to get my two boys out camping, and I always find reasons not to.

Do most agree that it’s not worth it in this Louisiana summer heat, though?

We did lots of camping as kids. At one point we got one of those trailer tent campers, that had a tent that popped out of the trailer, covering it. The trailer had a mattress on top of it, where my parents slept. We slept on the tent floor in sleeping bags.

We did Silver Dollar city before Branson had shows. Went all over Colorado. Spent time in Texas and Missouri. Camped all over Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee, Camped on the Gulf in Florida.

I'm probably missing a few places from when I was too young to remember where we were. After I was grown, I really appreciated my parents doing things like this.

I remember visiting Military parks like Shiloh and Vicksburg on camping trips. We camped at several places along the Natchez Trace.

We love tent camping. We went to Tishomingo, Mississippi recently, and we’re planning on going to Hot Springs sometime in the near future.

OP have you tried Tannehill State Park? One of my favorite camping spots in the Birmingham area.
