I have a few year old Stihl trimmer and the head is wearing out. I also find myself fighting with it a lot more lately. Is there something better? It is a pretty standard OEM bump head like this.

I put one of these Pivot type heads on my smaller Stihl. Works well enough and it’s really easy to install string. You can buy the pre-made strings (easiest) or find the right size and cut your own as long as you cut them all the same length. Like $15-20 at your Home Depot/Lowes/Ace.

My dewalt battery trimmer head was garbage, bought the Echo Speed Feed 400 universal and 100% would recommend.

eta and don’t be a dumbass like me spending 15 minutes trying to screw it on, trying all the different universal mounting attachments, damn near put it back in the box to return it - until I figured out it’s got reverse threads ie Lefty tighty

Echo Speed Feed

I didn’t see the need at first, but I’m very satisfied with it. Worth the upgrade, especially if you’re replacing the stock head anyway.

Echo Speed Feed 450

There are videos online about how to use an Echo head on a Stihl trimmer.

Edit.

The Speed Feed 450 is much better than the Speed Feed 400, especially if you have a higher CC string trimmer. The 400 also has a tendency to really scalp the grass whereas the 450 does not.

I just replace the head. New one at Ace Hardware is $20. Last a long time and I have a lot of weed eating to do.

I went with the Oregon Gator Speedloader head. No complaints. Much better than the OEM Stihl head

I bought the Stihl's speed feed head, but I prefer Echos. They're similar though.

I feel like I run through a lot of string when I weedeat. I think I'd be replacing those strings constantly.

It’s not bad at all. I get several weeks out of them but note I don’t edge with my trimmer.

Does look like I need to check into that echo head for my new wacker. I assume that it fits a FS91.
