I just skimmed the thread.
The good.
.308 it is the perfect hunting round for the Americas
The bad
Savage AXIS - these guns are just crap. Find something better, savage makes better rifles for not much more. It is all about the magazine and feeding, that is where the Axis SUCKS.
Vortex - Vortex has a great warranty, and well, you will need it. There are much better optics brands out there in the price range, I would go with swampfox optics for a budget friendly optic. Much better than Vortex, same great warranty but you are less likely to need it, much less likely.
