That's a fantastic tourism selling point. "Come to New Orleans! If you stay within a 3 block area, you probably won't witness any violent crime!"

is BS. It is a pandemic right now in the city. Under the overpasses are literally campgrounds.
it's worse than it as 5 years ago, but it still miles behind cities like Austin so I'm not sweating it..yet. The city's actually razed over a few homeless camps to to try and disperse them. The one by the WWII museum was drawing complaints so the city coincidentally decided to clear them out and erect an iron fence around where the tents had been for "parking."

I went a few weeks ago and a murder happened in the quarter on the street I parked and walked on about 5-10 mins after I passed. This was in the afternoon.
The time before that, had my window busted open and vehicle burglarized. Guess you have better luck than me.

Grandkids are escaping S'port to stay the summer with me. So damn relieved.
I will go down in September, and dread parts of it already. I'll stay with my brother in the country.

There is always plausible deniability that the homeless person is just a hipster or crusty.

Sounds like you were incredibly lucky;-(

You 2 are fricking morons, several ways to get to WHD and not encounter homeless camps.

Except he said he spent a whole weekend here "mostly in the WHD" (meaning he obviously moved around a bit).
If someone just zips in and out of downtown, sure there's a couple of ways whereby they may not see any of that bullshite.
But, there's simply no way one is spending a whole weekend in and around the warehouse district and seeing "almost zero" of it.

In pure numbers it isn't but it is where they are that is the issue. If they are under Claiborne out towards Treme like they always were that's not as much of a problem but the corner of Tchoup?Calliope and Loyola/Calliope becomes a way bigger issue.
